Owner Janet Petrie has offered a variety of personalized holistic treatments and products in Dundas, Ontario for several years. She says: “I try to create a space where clients can reconnect with themselves outside their busy lives. Our bodies will tell us what they need in order to heal if we are able to relax and listen.” At Desjardins Massage local residents have a comfortable, quiet place to find holistic solutions for personal stresses before they begin to cause physical problems. "The ambiance I offer is very special for I have created a space that feels safe and nurturing", Janet says.
As a Holistic Therapist, Certified Reflexologist, Aromatherapist, Hot Stone Massage Therapist, and Bach Flower Practitioner, Janet is able to care to the needs and preferences of every client. What really sets Desjardins Massage apart, however, is her dedication to treating the whole body in an atmosphere that promotes true healing on many levels.
Desjardins offers Holistic Facials using all-natural products. Janet makes her own custom facial masks and scrubs with organic ingredients and pure essential oils. As she is a certified Aromatherapist, all products–such as personalized skin creams for face and body designed to treat dry skin, oily skin, acne, eczema, joint pain, and dry hands and feet--are made to meet the customer's individual emotional and physical needs. She takes into consideration any allergies, sensitivities and specific skin conditions before creating a personal skin care product with no harsh preservatives or parabens.
Desjardins also offers Lymphatic Drainage, which encourages the body to remove toxins and improve the immune system. This is a massage treatment accented with an essential oil blend which allows the body to process the fluid and toxins gently and naturally. Janet provides this treatment to cancer patients, especially where lymph nodes have been removed and the lymphatic system is not working as effectively. “I have found Lymphatic Drainage to be extremely effective in improving joint mobility, moving excess fluid and helping the client to regain a higher quality of life.”
Hot Stone Massage, Hot Stone Back Massage and Aromatherapy Massage are also provided. Janet uses her own custom-made blends of essential oils for each treatment. Another treatment offered is reflexology, which helps to encourage the body to heal and balance itself. Indian Head Massage, which focuses on the entire upper body, is an excellent treatment for insomnia, headaches, jaw strain and muscle stiffness that may be a result of work or daily stress.
Another service provided is Ear Candling, which is a gentle and non-invasive method of removing excess debris and wax from ears. It also helps to maintain healthy ears and sinus cavities. In addition several types of Pregnancy Massages are provided, using a pregnancy cushion which allows expectant mothers to lie face down comfortably. This provides considerable relief for the back strain often suffered by mothers-to-be.
As a Bach Flower Practitioner, Janet uses the 38 homeopathic prepared remedies to help heal any emotional issues or trauma. This process involves a private consultation with each client to discover how they are feeling, and to discuss what remedies may be suitable. After this, Janet and client determine the blend together. This encourages clients to play an active role in their own healing journey.
Janet also sells locally custom-made Yoga accessories, including Yoga Bolsters to support the spine or knees, eye sacks for relaxation and sandbags to deepen the yoga poses. Overall Desjardins addresses not only physical aches and strains, but the very real stresses and issues that cause them.
